Choosing a Property Inspector

There are a plethora of qualified property inspectors out there and choosing the right one for you can be quite daunting. Here are some factors to take into account.

Cost: The least expensive quote may not necessarily be the best way to choose a Property Inspector. While it would be wise of you to call around for a few quotes before deciding on one, always remember the old adage "you get what you pay for". You'll have a pretty good idea of what a fair market price is once you've received a few quotes.

Experience: As in any profession, experience is key when it comes to choosing a Property Inspector, for obvious reasons. It's much easier to identify an issue when you've come across them before.

Certifications & Equipment: When you call for quotes, ask about certifications. Property Inspectors can receive a number of accreditations such as Licensed Certified Master Inspector, "WETT Certified", Certified Thermographer, etc. Ask what type of equipment they have and what they can actually test for, such as a Thermographic Imaging, Radon test kit, moisture meter, and so on.

Reputation: The best way to gauge an Inspector's work is by reputation. Check reviews online and don't be afraid to ask for referrals. After all, you're relying on these guys to provide you with the best report possible regarding what may very well be one of the most expensive decisions of your life. Choose wisely.
